HH-60D Night Hawk - Hasegawa 00437

I bought this kit because I thought it looked cool. After a few months I finally got time to building it and as I starting putting it together I wondered why the quality was much worse than what I am used to from other Tamiya kits – then I remembered, this is not a Tamiya kit, it is a Hasegawa kit based on some old tools with just a pretty new box!

Being based on old tools the details are not as impressive as newer kits and there are marks from ejector pins on visible places. The two parts making up the main fuselage does not fit together due to some major bending of one of the parts.

If you want to build some Blackhawk variant, notice that the HH-60D was a prototype designed as a combat search and rescue helicoptor and was also supposed to being used for special operations. However, it did not enter operational use. If I had known this before buying, I would have prefered building a HH-60G or HH-60W variant instead.

Model:HH-60D Night Hawk
Brand:Hasegawa
Number:00437
Scale:1:72
Released:2008 (new box)
Tools:1985/1987
Rating:

Pros

  • Nice looking helicoptor.
  • Optional air crew
  • Easy build with good build instructions

Cons

  • Old tools, not as detailed as newer kits
  • Visible injector pins on some parts
  • Some fit issues
  • Some cleanup and plastic putty required!

Conclusion

If you can get this cheap, then it is a nice looking helicoptor, but be prepared for some issues with the build quality and make sure you have some plastic putty available. If you want to build some variant of Blackhawk, there are better kits around that I recommend you look into instead…
